Otto Hornung
Otto Hornung (born Ostrava,〔"The Slania I Knew" by Otto Hornung in ''Gibbons Stamp Monthly'', June 2005, p.90.〕 Czechoslovakia 1920〔http://hps.gr/fipliterature/bureau/hornung.html FIP Literature Commission profile retrieved 30 September 2009.〕 died 8 January 2013) was a distinguished philatelist and philatelic journalist who won Gold medals at several philatelic exhibitions and was a Fellow of The Royal Philatelic Society London. He signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1993 and lived in Wembley, London.
== Early life ==
Whilst in Ostrava, Hornung witnessed the German invasion of Czechoslovakia in March 1939 but managed to escape to Bogumin, then in unoccupied Poland, dressed as a postman in the mail wagon of a goods train.〔 After that he joined the Czechoslovak Legion. Hornung spoke Polish and Czech fluently as both were used freely in Ostrava.
